Tablas Creek 30TH Anniversary Retrospective Tasting
Born of a decades-long friendship between two of the world’s leading wine families — the Perrins of Chateau de Beaucastel and the Haas family of Vineyard Brands — Tablas Creek Vineyard is celebrating its 30th Anniversary this year. After searching all over California for limestone soils and a Mediterranean climate, in 1989 the partners purchased a 120 acre parcel 12 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean in what is now part of the Paso Robles Adelaida District, imported cuttings from the Beaucastel estate, and eventually planted their organic and biodynamic vineyard. Thus was born what I think is one of America’s greatest wineries, a key catalyst for the modern ‘Rhone Rangers’ movement and a Paso Robles pioneer. Join second-generation Proprietor Jason Haas for a retrospective tasting of their flagship wines, and a discussion of what’s next for Tablas Creek, Paso Robles, and the Rhone Rangers.

An Evening with Bruce Cockburn
Bone On Bone, Cockburn’s 33rd album, arrives with 11 new songs, including “3 Al Purdys,” a brilliant, six-minute epic that pays tribute to Purdy’s poetry. Cockburn explains its genesis: “I went out and got Purdy’s collected works, which is an incredible book. Then I had this vision of a homeless guy who is obsessed with Purdy’s poetry, and he’s ranting it on the street. The song is written in the voice of that character. The chorus goes, ‘I’ll give you three Al Purdys for a twenty dollar bill.’ Here’s this grey-haired dude, coat tails flapping in the wind, being mistaken for the sort of addled ranters you run into on the street—except he’s not really ranting, he’s reciting Al Purdy. The spoken word parts of the track are excerpts from Purdy’s poems. After that, once the ice was broken, the songs just started coming.”
